Digital Alarm Clock - Soldering Project
Digital Alarm Clock - Soldering Project
Couldn't load pickup availability
Create a functional digital alarm clock by soldering components onto a printed circuit board! This project includes the kit with all the electrical components necessary. (Two AA batteries and soldering iron NOT included.)
In this project, you'll construct a digital alarm clock from a printed circuit board, some resistors and capacitors, a transistor, a buzzer, some buttons, and a 4-digit 7-segment LED display. A 12 MHz frequency generator (also called a clock) drives a microcontroller that updates and displays the time.
As you work through the project, you'll learn what all the components do. For example, how do only 12 pins control a total of 34 LEDs in the display to show the time and the blinking dots that separate the hours and the minutes? You'll find out in this project! You'll also create virtual circuits, physical circuits, and circuit simulations to see more clearly how to use LEDs, buttons, resistors, capacitors, and transistors. (The physical circuits require an inexpensive electronics kit that is NOT included with the project. There's a link in the first lesson in that section to a kit available from Amazon that costs around $10.)
This project includes the printed circuit board and all the electrical components necessary to construct the clock. The clock may be powered by two AA batteries (NOT included), or with a USB (type A) cable and charging block (the cable is included, but the charging block is not; the 5V 1 or 2A charger used with most cell phones and tablets should work). The soldering iron and other tools like wire snips and needle nose pliers are also NOT included.
